05/11/2011 Ebook Industry: Where Is Microsoft?
As the ebook industry progresses and the major players compete, it seems we
are headed in several directions at once. Self-publishing authors are confused
where to start with all the various formats and devices and platforms to
publish on.

I did a little research on my research and this is what I came up with. These are my favorites. You may not agree or I have left a good blog out but at least this list could be a starting point for the would-be author. 04/04/2011

Of course, there is one thing that we must have in place if we are going to coordinate a paper version with an ebook. We must know the source of the ebook and that information appears to be missing in action. It sounds like an easy problem to solve. I just purchased an ebook on-line and the hardcover edition was right next to my ebook selection. No problem. But ask me that question in three years when I still have that same ebook on my e-reader and the hardcover book has a new edition. There is no reference to which hardcover edition my ebook matches. None. 02/10/2011
Amazon has announced changes to their Kindle software. First they are going to display page numbers. This is a feature that academic Kindle and ebook users have been asking for since e-textbooks and ebooks started to appear. It has raised a large page numbering controversy and a lot of misconceptions. The Nook does this and the iPad does that. Both for the most part use device page numbers and not physical book page numbers but who’s keeping track. (PDF versions are an exception.) Now that Amazon has announced the inclusion of REAL page numbers in their ebooks, the fun begins. 02/02/2011

1/19/2011 In the last month or so I started researching the controversy over the sale of the eBook A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens and Amazon pulling a copy with a price from its store and substituting their own free copy. I was curious about the rendering of the replaced book and whether the author had actually added value to the eBook. I was struck by the parallel of the Dickens novel and the struggle between the French peasants and the aristocrats and the current book industry. Dickens initial paragraph reads like he is writing a blog on the current book industry and the struggle between the traditional author/publisher and the eBook author/self-publisher. His quote: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity. . . .” That says it all. 01/07/2011 This is the first in a series of blogs we will be posting
as we conduct a large study on eBook covers and their impact. We are undertaking
this study to assist the eBook author in his decisions during the development of
his eBooks. The goal is to help the eBook author improve the cover part of his
eBook package. 12/23/2010

Book Publishing announced today the formation of a new eBook division. 12/13/2011 I created this blog to motivate and challenge authors to
take advantage of the great opportunity the eBook industry offers them. The
other players in the industry must also take action or someone else will. 11/30/2010
The eBook Author has the opportunity
to add to the reading experience. The eBook conversion process must be much more
than converting a paper book to a digital format. It must take advantage of the
power of the electronic reader. As an
author, you must think about the reader and what he can do with the added
features the eBook allows him to use. You must add to your content something of
value for your readers. 11/22/2010 With the advent of the Kindle and the Nook, the readers of the world are endorsing the eBook in very large numbers. One of the next phases of the industry development will be the transition of the author from the traditional writer to an eBook author. They will write directly to the eBook platform and take advantage of the features and opportunities provided by the eBook experience. 11/12/2010 This is the eBook Author’s initial blog. I have created this blog to assist eBook authors in writing and developing eBooks. My blog will discuss how the eBook author fits into the evolving eBook Industry and the many opportunities that exist.
